How to Support

At Sonke, saving people money on grocery staples and eliminating single-use plastic packaging wasn't enough for us. We want to do more, and we need help to do it.

R10–R30 billion of enterprise development funding is available in South Africa every year; we want to help channel some of it into township job creation and business ownership.
10 entrepreneurs is our goal for participants developed into township business owners in our first year, once fundraising and set-up are complete.

Direct Donation

By donating, you help get the NPC started and off the ground, so that we can fundraise to realise our mission of developing our first cohort of township entrepreneurs. Sonke Retail has skin in the game too, supporting the programme with set-up costs and ongoing business services at its own cost.

Banking details, a donation agreement, what your donation funds, and our refund policy are provided directly when you get in touch; we don't publish banking details on an open web page.

We are pre-launch, and s18A tax-exemption approval is not yet in place. Nothing on this page should be taken as confirming that a donation to SKUBU sethu Sonke NPC is currently tax deductible; we will update this the moment approval is granted.

Socio-Economic Development

Donations fund the programme itself: curriculum, facilitation, mentoring and participant support.

Enterprise & Supplier Development

Contributions fund participants' own enterprises: stock, equipment, fit-out and working capital.

How we keep the two apart

  • Separate bank accounts and separate ledgers for donations and for ESD contributions.
  • Donations are never applied as enterprise capital; ESD contributions are never receipted under s18A.
  • Every contribution is recorded and reported against the cohort or the enterprise it funded.

What a funder gets back

  • A written funding agreement recording the purpose and any conditions of the contribution.
  • Reporting on participants trained, enterprises established, work created and packaging waste avoided.
  • Annual financial statements and the directors' report on activities.
  • Beneficiary qualification records and proof of spend for B-BBEE verification.

What we do not offer

  • No equity, no returns and no share of trading income; no board seats or control over selection.
  • No naming rights over a participant's business: participants own their own enterprises.
We are pre-launch, and s18A approval is not yet in place; nothing here should be taken as confirming tax-deductible status for a contribution.
