What We Do

How We Pursue Our Objective

Three commitments, drawn directly from our Memorandum of Incorporation.

01

Economic Inclusion

Programmes capacitating unemployed community members, to enable them to find employment and to create employment opportunities for others.

02

Food Security & Access

Improving access to household staples and basic needs, to enable impoverished or vulnerable families to be fed.

03

Eliminating Plastic Waste

Championing renewable and re-usable packaging to eliminate waste, and driving a social movement against plastic packaging.

Our First Programme: In Development

Enterprise Development, Not Just Training

Our enterprise development programme will find unemployed people (with a focus on youth) in township communities and train them, free of charge. Formal, structured classroom instruction runs alongside supervised practical training on the job: each participant works through a set curriculum covering what it takes to run a retail enterprise, then applies that learning in a working store, and is paid a wage for the work they do there. Progress is assessed against the curriculum, and participants who complete the programme receive a formal record of the training behind them.

Along the way, participants build their own savings towards a nominal, means-tested contribution to the enterprise they will go on to own. That money is capital in the participant's own business, never a payment to the Company, and it may be reduced, waived or deferred under a board-approved policy. No one is turned away for starting with nothing.

Participants run their own enterprises and keep what they earn. No joining fee, no training fee, no cut of anyone's takings, and nothing a participant is obliged to buy from us. Support does not stop when the doors open: coaching, mentoring, access to professional services and ongoing technical support continue after a participant opens for trade. Any funding the programme recovers goes straight back into training the next group of participants.
